Press Release: Neuropsychologist Dr. Sylvain Roy Named Director of Strategic Initiatives at Strata Health Solutions
Calgary, AB – October 29, 2019 – Strata Health is proud of its diverse team of problem solvers and innovators. Together, our collaborative efforts have had a lasting global impact on patient flow pathways across entire care continuums.
As we continue to partner with health organizations, helping them increase efficiency and decrease risk in transitions of care, our North American team is expanding! We are pleased to welcome an extremely reputable neuropsychologist to our team: Dr. Sylvain Roy, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Strata Health Solutions.
Dr. Sylvain Roy is a neuropsychologist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and Inner-City Family Health Team in Toronto. He is an adjunct professor at York University, and the past-president of the Ontario Psychology Association (OPA). He completed his Ph.D. in clinical neuropsychology at the Université de Montréal and also holds degrees from York and McGill University. Dr. Roy works primarily with persons with disabling mental health conditions and currently co-leads two Ontario government-funded projects looking at elucidating the prevalence of brain injury, dementia and developmental disabilities among shelter users and highlighting challenges associated with connecting homelessness person to appropriate supports, housing and health services.
“Sylvain offers a rare combination of passion, clinical expertise, and system-level thinking that made bringing him into the team the obvious choice,” says Strata Health President & CEO, Peter Smith. “We’re very excited to harness some of that energy and bring it to bear on the disjointed care continuum. Sylvain has spent his career focused on some of the most intractable individual cases in the system, and we’re confident that those same skills will be invaluable as he takes on more macro challenges.”
A distinguished neuropsychologist who’s seen the adverse effects caused by gaps in communication and care, Dr. Roy is passionately aligned with Strata Health’s vision of solving patient transition challenges.
“I have seen first-hand the harm that occurs when systems are siloed and over-reliant on manual processes, and poor decision supports. Patients get stuck anxiously waiting for the care they need and are left to navigate complex social and health systems on their own,” explains Dr. Sylvain Roy. “Strata Health Solutions holds the promise of a more informed, connected, and evidenced-based navigation system, free of human error and biases. Strata’s tools allow decision-makers to see real-time wait times, system-level gaps, and other useful data points that are needed to make fiscally responsible service decisions. The less time clinicians spend on system navigation, the more time they have for patient care. Embracing technology will not improve patient care and safety. It will save money that can then be reinvested in critically needed front line services.
We are honoured to welcome Dr. Roy to the team. His contributions will undoubtedly deepen our expertise and leadership in optimizing care, as we work to achieve patient flow innovation for health teams and the networks they rely on.
